Principles

PERIPHERIE, Institute of Practice-Oriented Gender Research, is an interdisciplinary research and further training institution founded in 2000. We offer practice-relevant research, counselling, and coaching. Our research and further training programme is based on the following principles and objectives:

  • Gender perspective
  • Practice-orientation
  • Interdisciplinarity
  • Internationality

Gender Perspective

PERIPHERIE views current societal developments, problems, policy options, and decision guidance from a gender-specific angle. The concept of analysing the origins and effects of gender-specific inequalities and developing counter-strategies is in line with the gender mainstreaming concept of the EU.

Practice-orientation

PERIPHERIE broadens the horizon of scientific research by introducing concepts that go beyond a mere analysis. Our scientific research is always guided by a practice-relevance approach, and our designs are developed such as to enable putting research results into practice.

Interdisciplinarity

PERIPHERIE works according to the principle of multidisciplinarity. Our services and programmes are based on cross- and interdisciplinary ideas and approaches. The PERIPHERIE research team is composed of experts with an academic background in the fields of sociology, economics, and empirical cultural and educational studies.

Internationality

PERIPHERIE participates in and chairs EU projects, and thus plays an important role in the implementation of pan-European goals at national and local levels in Austria. PERIPHERIE avails of a network of international cooperation partners and of far-reaching experience with trans-national cooperation. Both our concepts and research results are geared to international audiences.
